Milford Sound

Christmas Day we drove the Southern Scenic Route to Milford Sound.

The views were pretty spectacular and Milford lived up to the hype. Even on a cloudy and overcast day the fjord was nothing short of majestic. The vertical assent of the mountains from the water is breathtaking and the recent rains had the waterfalls overflowing left and right. We did the Milford Wanderer overnight cruise. Our bunkmates were a very nice young couple from Seattle on their honeymoon. And we were all cracking up about the miniature single bunks - it was like sleep away camp!

Tonight we stay in Arrowtown so Justin can see where I made my base-camp for a few weeks then it's off to Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.

Book Reviews:
Messenger of Athens by Anne Zouroudi

I have to say this book was a bit of a disappointment. I loved the descriptions of the small Greek Island where the story took place and the nuances of small island life but the characters were weakly developed, not very likable and the plot just sort of puttered along.

This book is written by the same author who wrote Bringing Down the House and Breaking Vegas. Great book about the intricacies of the mercantile exchange in New York and the set up of the Dubai merc exchange. Fascinating insight into the business dealings of the Middle East and the amount of wealth and prosperity in Dubai. True story of a young Harvard Business grad and his relationship with the interesting characters of the Merc Mob, Sheiks of Dubai and the key players of the banking world in the setup of a new oil exchange in Dubai. I recommend this as a fun read.

  1. Nate loves all the Mezrich books! I am still reading One Fifth by Bushnell. A beachy read.

Hope you are enjoying the glaciers!
